i wanted to recapture the sense of standing before this doorway in venice, looking out past the red geraniums, the magnolia and palm, across the weathered rock wall to the neighboring villas and tiled Venetian roofline. now, with this mosaic on my kitchen mantle, i gaze out the doorway and, at my will, i am transported to another time and place. venice calls...
